ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. recently announced its intention to acquire, by way of a voluntary public tender offer, CFT S.p.A., an established global supplier to the food and beverage equipment market. The tender offer of €4.60 per share represents a total equity value of €88 million and a total enterprise value of €166 million (~C$260 million).
“This is a highly strategic transaction that will allow us to establish a broader growth platform for ATS in the regulated food and beverage equipment market, and positions us well in attractive niches,” said Andrew Hider, CEO of ATS.
As collaborative robots emerge as the fastest growing segment of industrial automation, cobot curriculum developed by an industrial leader is increasingly sought after in schools and manufacturing industries.
“With the Education Program we’re addressing a tremendous need to provide cobot training as part of an integrated course,” says Joe Campbell, senior manager of applications development at Universal Robots (UR).
Schneider Electric has recently accelerated its drive to help customers unlock the full potential of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Promising to unleash a new wave of innovation by championing the widespread adoption of open automation standards, Schneider Electric unveiled its vision for universal automation and the first of its kind EcoStruxure Automation Expert, a new category of software-centric industrial automation system.
Industrial operations are undergoing a game-changing transformation. Advances in machine learning, augmented reality, real-time analytics and the IIoT hold great promise for industrial enterprises and manufacturers to meet the demands of today’s agile and digital world.
Part 4 of the digital press conference series “Join us for a coffee...” took a look into the future of manufacturing and showed how industrial companies can increase efficiency, product quality and revenue by linking artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things – this time with the expertise of KUKA, Device Insight and Sentian.
When it comes to combining artificial intelligence and IoT, industry has so far clearly focused on predictive maintenance. “A mistake,” says Dr. Christian Liedtke, Head of Strategic Alliances at KUKA, with conviction.
Rittal Systems Ltd., Canada would like to announce that Tim Rourke will be resigning as President, and Andre Bousette will be stepping into this role, taking leadership of Rittal’s Canadian operations.
Looking back at Tim Rourke’s 25 years with Rittal
Tim Rourke completed 25 years of exceptional service to Rittal Systems Ltd. in 2020. In 1995, Tim joined Rittal as an Outside Sales Representative in Eastern and Northern Ontario. In 1997, he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager for Ontario.
Just 25 years ago, Beckhoff had an idea that revolutionized the automation technology of the time: The Bus Terminal combined fieldbus technology with the proven terminal block principle for the first time. The final result was developed together with Wago Kontakttechnik.
Beckhoff then presented the modular and open I/O system for space-saving, customizable and highly flexible configurations at the Hannover Messe trade show in 1995. As an industrial electronics and communication specialist, Beckhoff intentionally continued the advancement of the existing block module concept for the electronic terminal block.
The European Union-funded SIMS project and the related field tests of Epiroc's battery-powered mining machines turned the eyes of the entire mining world to Kittilä. Now, the mine’s first own battery-powered rigs, two Boltec E Battery bolting units, have started in production.
It takes courage to be at the forefront of development, but the benefits to be achieved - an improved working environment and a reduced carbon footprint - are considered worthy at the Kittilä mine.
6.5 meters long, 2.5 meters wide and weighing just 800 kilograms: the “Motor Additive Manufacturing Boat”, or MAMBO for short, is the world’s first boat from a 3D printer to be built using KUKA robots and finished by an expert hand.
The idea came from the Italian startup Moi Composites, which collaborated with leading experts from the automation sector, such as Autodesk UK, and the boatbuilding industry during the realization of the project.

Conversations about automation technology and design often focus on one thing – the technology itself. We think of the high-tech robots, the automated conveyors, or the precision welding machines that make it possible for factories to operate more efficiently, productively, and safely.
However, any discussions around automation technology need to include the most important element – the people.
When it comes to stationary fuel cells, Bosch is stepping up a gear. In 2024, the supplier of technology and services intends to start full-scale production of distributed power stations based on solid oxide fuel-cell technology – hence the agreement to intensify its alliance with Ceres Power.
Following a successful prototype construction phase, the two companies now want to press ahead, initially with the pre-commercialization process for stationary fuel cells. For SOFC systems, Bosch is aiming for an annual production capacity of some 200 megawatts. This is enough to supply around 400,000 people with electricity in their homes.
Expansion modules snap onto the side of any BRX Micro PLC Unit (MPU) or BRX Remote I/O controller.
Newly added BRX discrete I/O modules include 5, 8, and 16-point relay output modules (starting at $55) with Form A (SPST) and Form C (SPDT) options; 16-point 2-5 VDC discrete input and output modules (starting at $55); a 16-point 2-5 VDC discrete combination input/output module; and the HSIO4 high-speed pulse combo module ($219) capable of handling up to a 2MHz frequency in differential or single-ended wiring configurations.
