Panel Builder System Integrator

Hannover Messe

Whether in the energy sector or manufacturing, digitization is the key to maximum energy efficiency. The challenge is to save on energy – be it in the form of heat, power, steam, or compressed air – without compromising work and production processes. Mastering that challenge requires highly sensitive measurement equipment and digital energy management systems that can work together and communicate to make split-second, precision-coordinated adjustments.

Hannover

Robots that fit in with their human counterparts (and not the other way round); AR glasses that feed their wearer vital information overlays; self-learning machines that continuously self-optimize…and at the heart of it all stands one thing: people power. That's the core message of HANNOVER MESSE 2018. Or, as Deutsche Messe's Managing Board Chairman Dr. Jochen Köckler puts it: "The factory of the future is a factory that can think for itself and is human-centric."

A team of engineering technology students from Purdue University’s Polytechnic Institute will take its “T.R.A.S.H.” to Germany for the second month in a row. During a trip in March, the team won first place in an international automation competition for designing and building an automated trash collection system. The grand prize for their victory: a trip to Hannover Messe, the world’s largest industrial trade show, held April 23-27 in Hanover, Germany.

A World Without Downtime

Utopias are common in fiction, from Plato’s The Republic to The Federation in Star Trek. For manufacturers, a world without unplanned downtime would be the perfect utopia. The question is, is abolishing unplanned downtime a far-fetched dream, or is it closer than we think? Here, Jonathan Wilkins, marketing director of obsolete industrial equipment supplier, EU Automation shares his vision for a downtime free age.

According to research by Oneserve, machine downtime is costing British manufacturers over £180 billion a year. Unplanned downtime halts production, but can also lead to wasted raw materials or damage to the system itself – amplifying the cost beyond loss of production. Further research conducted by GE Digital found that 70 per cent of companies lack full awareness of when equipment is due for maintenance, upgrade or repair..

Rockwell Automation HMI Improving Operator Efficiency Rockwell Automation has updated its HMI software to equip industrial workers with better information to run and maintain their systems. New features in the FactoryTalk View software version 10.0 include greater access to information, new mobile device support and better cross-software integration to improve productivity. Operators can now use the TrendPro tool in FactoryTalk View Site Edition (SE) software to overlay alarm information on trend data. This feature can help them connect alarm occurrences with data-point values to speed up troubleshooting. They can also use the tool to save and share ad hoc trends with other workers.
