Panel Builder System Integrator

Synchro1 400Fabruary 4, 2019

Strategically located in the Niagara Region of Ontario, Canada, Synchro Engineering Limited has been serving Southwestern Ontario with Electrical Engineering, and Contracting Services since 1966.

Initially incorporated as an electrical contracting firm specializing in industrial maintenance, repairs and installations, Synchro expanded its portfolio in 2006 to include electrical Engineering and Engineering services, and has extensive experience in various fields from power systems, energy management, green energy, automation, panel builds, and equipment service, to general electrical contracting.

Dan Michitsch, Vice President of Synchro Engineering, says, “Our focus is always on fulfilling the client’s Synchro2 400immediate requirements. Our strengths are our professionalism, diverse electrical engineering experience and the timely completion of projects. Our promise is to maintain dependable project communication, regardless of project size, to assure prompt response and to mediate risks that our customers may encounter over the life of the project”.

Synchro takes pride in extending their service across a variety of fields including energy, utility, manufacturing, mining, automotive and health care.

In his quest for unique and innovative solutions, Dan Michitsch was originally looking at a custom solution to house their cable machinery leaving the centre of the cube open for cable management. Existing suppliers could not meet the specified time-line as the custom solution needed to be specifically engineered to meet the client’s requirements.

Synchro approached Proax Technologies, a Technical Automation Distributor that provides innovative product solutions by creating close relationships with their valued customers, vendors and employees. Proax has been in the marketplace for over 55 years and offers product solutions in the areas of Machine Automation, Motion Control and Machine Safety

Proax Technologies turned to Rittal Systems Ltd, Canada, known for its enclosures, climate control and power distribution systems, accessories and software, as they were aware of Rittal Canada's Modification Centre in Mississauga, with the Perforex Machine they are able to manufacture, supply and modify high quality products in record time.

Synchro3 400The Perforex machine enables 10 hours of panel production work to be completed in just 90 minutes. It delivers not only time savings but increased accuracy and reduced waste with its CNC precision-capabilities. Perforex units call upon up to 20 tools in the magazine for operations including drilling, tapping, milling and circular thread milling, and can handle clampable panels up to 3600×2300 mm. What’s more, since programming is faster than manual marking, the system is economically advantageous from a batch size of one. Perhaps most importantly, there are important design advantages inherent in Rittal enclosures that are amplified with the Perforex machining center.

Proax and Rittal sprang into action and put their Synchro5 400combined prowess together to come up with an ingenious solution. Given the overall dimensions, both Paul Johnston, Inside Sales Representative, Rittal Canada, and Craig Garbella, Technical Sales Representative, from Rittal’s distributor, Proax Technologies, came up with a concept consisting of suiting together various TS 8 enclosures (4 enclosures – Model # 8228500, 2 enclosures – Model # 8628500, 2 enclosures – Model # 8225500, 1 enclosure – Model # 8625500).

The TS 8 enclosure is Rittal’s flagship product. Across North America and around the world, industries as diverse as Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Water Supply/Wastewater Management, Wind Power, Data Centers, Chemicals and Medical Technology rely on this modular enclosure design for panel building, low-voltage switchgear, IT infrastructure and mechanical engineering applications.

Synchro4 400The TS 8 is available in more than 100 versions off the shelf and comes in carbon steel, and 304 and 316 stainless steel varieties. Its modular construction allows for easy assembly, baying, equipment installations, removals and reconfigurations.

Combined with Rittal’s climate control and power distribution systems, the TS 8 enclosure safely and efficiently protects electronic equipment, control and processing systems in the harshest environments, the hottest factories and the most demanding conditions while possessing a design aesthetic and surface finish worthy of showrooms. Accessories enable the TS 8 to be truly the world’s most adaptable enclosure for

Synchro6 400industrial and IT needs.

Rittal’s TS 8 baying system is a system platform for just about any application. When used in conjunction with the system accessories, each enclosure is a specialist for the most exceptional tasks. The symmetrical frame profile of the TS 8 saves a significant amount of space and facilitates easy internal installation. It also allows a baying arrangement on all sides.

Rittal’s skilled Technical Service Group provided the drawings and the team worked together day and night to go from drawing board to production to finishing. Proax handled all the project planning, logistics and supply of the product seamlessly and efficiently.

The solution fully satisfied the client’s requirements. Not only did the combined TS 8 enclosures look aesthetically pleasing, but there was adequate space for housing, accessing and managing the cabling through the centre of the structure.

Dan Michitsch, Vice President of Synchro Engineering added, “Synchro remains dedicated in providing credible, reliable and honest solutions to their client’s specific electrical engineering, and contracting requirements. It was a pleasure working with Proax and Rittal who responded to our needs with an excellent solution, and delivered within our short timelines!”

Tim Rourke, President, Rittal Systems, said, “What a great example of a solution sale not solely based on price but on a complete solution, as well as the ability to think out of the box and deliver in a timely manner, in order to beat out the competition and prove that dedication to customer excellence comes first.”

One of Canada’s largest wastewater treatment plants at Annacis Island provides secondary treatment to approximately 175 billion litres of wastewater every year for over 1 million residents in 14 municipalities. After almost 20 years in operation, the variable frequency drives supporting the critical pumping systems for the primary treatment and secondary treatment facilities had to be replaced to ensure that the plant’s high operational availability and reliability will not be compromised in serving the plant, the surrounding municipalities and the environment. Metro Vancouver Regional District chose to deploy Rittal’s enclosure and power distribution solutions with E-plan software to efficiently support vital infrastructure improvements by reducing equipment replacement times and thereby minimizing risk to plant operations.

HARTING Electronics: Circular Connectors – A Round Thing

Circular Connectors 400

Jonas Diekmann, Technical Editor at HARTING Electronics

The metric system of units was introduced for the first time in 1793 during the French Revolution and is used even today in almost all countries worldwide. The metric round plug connectors are also based on this system of units and are a known standard in raw industrial applications. In various diameters and codes, they are a reliable connection for the three lifelines of industrial applications. Data, signals and performance are essential for drive, control and communication. The typical round appearance with the thread for screwing in is a success story up to the present. But classics often also still reveal unexpected potential. With its new PushPull Locking and Com-Lock HARTING is making two round guild models ready for the future.

Metric round plug connectors are some of the most widespread interfaces worldwide, when it comes to cabling for machines, industrial plant and devices under demanding conditions of use.
