Rittal

Today, organizations, especially the midsize ones, often find themselves in a quandary. They need to continually increase IT capacity to support new technologies like cloud, analytics, mobility, and social while improving availability, supporting application growth and meeting new customer and business demands at the same time, they must contain operating and capital costs. Something’s got to give. For many organizations, data centers are the engines that drive the growth of the enterprise.

Phoenix Contact

Rivierenland, the Dutch water authority, has replaced outdated technology with innovative automation components provided by Phoenix Contact as part of modernization measures. Johan van IJmeren, Senior Project Manager at Waterschap Rivierenland, was involved in the practical implementation. The new devices contribute to cross-border flood protection and also significantly reduce the engineering costs while increasing plant availability.

EMC

The whitepaper, by global EMC specialist Keith Armstrong, offers guidance on choosing the correct specifications and style of a filter. Armstrong states that the guidance is akin to taking “anti-Murphy” precautions — referring to the adage that "anything that can go wrong will go wrong". The advice aims to pre-empt Murphy’s Law from affecting filters, through better specification in the design process.

Kymera Systems

The world today is in what can be best described as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, or more commonly known as Industry 4.0. Also going by the name of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), the industrial world has already seen the implementation of various Cloud technologies and an increased rate in automation, the likes of which were not in past years.

Choosing the right filter for an application is considered by many design and electrical engineers to be something of a dark art. Fortunately, help is at hand – a new whitepaper from electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) specialist EMC Standards. The whitepaper provides design engineers with a guide to designing the right filters for their products, and is available for download in the member’s area of the EMC Standards website.

Hannover Messe 2018

"Technology is not about competing with us humans; it's about assisting us. That is the core message conveyed by this trade fair, which has again underscored Hannover's reputation as a global hotspot for the digital transformation of industry," said Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe, at the close of HANNOVER MESSE and CeMAT.

CSA

As the industrial and manufacturing sectors continue the shift from centralized to decentralized operations, the world of production as we know it will change completely. This new era, commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0, is characterized by—smart manufacturing processes where a plethora of intelligent machines, systems, and networks independently exchange and respond to information to manage production.

Phoenix Contact

If safety control systems have to be integrated in large-scale applications, specialised know-how is typically required. Only like that all relevant requirements can be considered completely so that the machine operators are reliably protected against dangerous situations. Solutions like SafetyBridge Technology prove to be advantageous: It combines the simplicity of a configurable system with the benefits of I/O modules distributed within the automation network.

Panduit/Grantek

A coal generation power plant, at a major utility company, was looking to achieve better network visibility and security for its material handling buildings and upgrade their legacy PLC systems that were technologically outdated. Their industrial automation team was short staffed and did not have the bandwidth, expertise, or time to manage the project.

One of Canada’s largest wastewater treatment plants at Annacis Island provides secondary treatment to approximately 175 billion litres of wastewater every year for over 1 million residents in 14 municipalities. After almost 20 years in operation, the variable frequency drives supporting the critical pumping systems for the primary treatment and secondary treatment facilities had to be replaced to ensure that the plant’s high operational availability and reliability will not be compromised in serving the plant, the surrounding municipalities and the environment. Metro Vancouver Regional District chose to deploy Rittal’s enclosure and power distribution solutions with E-plan software to efficiently support vital infrastructure improvements by reducing equipment replacement times and thereby minimizing risk to plant operations.

Three strategies for embracing and maintaining manufacturing flexibility

ManufacturingTo keep up with the demands of today’s consumer-driven economy, manufacturers are increasingly adopting flexible production strategies. This can help companies be much more responsive to the whims of the market, but it creates some new challenges in its own right. Such challenges include reduced throughput, extra complexity and high installation costs.

At Omron, we’ve devoted much of our recent efforts to helping manufacturers become and remain flexible.
