Over the years, the IDEC FL1F SmartRelay has proven to be a reliable and dependable controller for many control applications requiring limited I/O. Along with its universal voltage, built-in analog inputs, 10 Amp relay outputs and web server functions, we’ve enhanced it with more features suited for today’s demanding IIoT environments, now and into the future. Controls system will be even smarter and more efficient with these new FL1F SmartRelay features.


  •  -   Up to 20,000 data sets can be logged and stored to a Micro SD card. This card can also be used for program storage, and for transfer of program data from one controller to another.

  •  -   Up to 4 inputs can be configured as 5 KHz high speed inputs.

  •  -   Universal Voltage:
    •     -   12-24VDC
    •     -   24VDC
    •     -   24VAC/DC
    •     -   and 100-240VAC/DC models
  •  -   Up to four 0-10VDC analog inputs can be configured with a resolution of 0-1000.

  •  -   Remote program download/upload/monitor

    •     -   Integrated web server for remote monitoring and control
    •     -   Easily create web pages without the need of HTML knowledge
    •     -   Connection to Display Panel
  •  -   Expansion Interface
    •     -   Add expansion modules for additional I/O
    •     -   Up to 12 expansion modules can be added
    •     -   Total I/O: 24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs,
                              8 analog inputs,8 analog outputs
  •  -   The FL1F SmartRelay has a new and improved LCD operator interface which can display 6 lines, each with up to 20 characters. Selectable white, amber or red backlighting allows operators to easily distinguish alarm and alert status at a distance.

  •  -   Each SmartRelay is equipped with 4 relays or transistor outputs. Each relay is rated at 10A per point. As a result, interface relay is not required. Save wiring time and cost. A maximum of 20 outputs can be configured.

  •  -   Units with onboard LCD /keypad, programs can be written without the need of software. Users can easily adjust set point, preset value, and Timers and Counters.

One of Canada’s largest wastewater treatment plants at Annacis Island provides secondary treatment to approximately 175 billion litres of wastewater every year for over 1 million residents in 14 municipalities. After almost 20 years in operation, the variable frequency drives supporting the critical pumping systems for the primary treatment and secondary treatment facilities had to be replaced to ensure that the plant’s high operational availability and reliability will not be compromised in serving the plant, the surrounding municipalities and the environment. Metro Vancouver Regional District chose to deploy Rittal’s enclosure and power distribution solutions with E-plan software to efficiently support vital infrastructure improvements by reducing equipment replacement times and thereby minimizing risk to plant operations.

ABB to Upgrade Paper Machine Drives, Motors and Electrical Control Systems at Westrock Mill in Washington, USA

ABBWestRock Company—a provider of differentiated paper and packaging solutions—has selected ABB to replace its dry end drive system. This includes upgrades to its PM12 paper machine drives, motors and the installation of the ABB Ability System 800xA control system at its mill in Longview, Washington, USA. Installation and commissioning of the project is planned for completion by year-end 2020.

“ABB was chosen for this project based on the customer’s positive experience with our drives systems at its Longview mill and other WestRock sites,” said Steve St. Jarre, Head of Business Development, Pulp and Paper, Process Industries, ABB.
