RFID is commonly used for track & trace applications in the automotive industry. There is an increasing demand for customized solutions that seamlessly drop into existing production lines. At a leading automobile tire manufacturer, Pepperl+Fuchs designed an innovative RFID system. At this customer’s site, the RFID system enables traceability of semi-finished goods while being cleverly integrated into the production line.

Manufacturers in the automotive industry are striving to make the most of the current trend towards electric vehicles and low fuel consumption by building lighter-weight vehicles and favoring aluminum over iron. As the prevalence of mixed production lines containing both iron and aluminum increases, the demand for same-sensing-distance proximity sensors with suitably long sensing ranges is also on the rise.

B&R is offering a new Compact-S PLC with 512 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal flash memory. That gives the X20CP0484-1 more than twice the RAM capacity of previous models from the Compact-S series. It is ideal for applications with high requirements for memory and performance.

ProSense motor control relays from AutomationDirect perform specific protective functions for motors or motor components to ensure proper and more efficient operation. Intrinsically safe relays provide safe and reliable control of loads within hazardous locations.

Whether on the floor, on the wall or inclined, the KR IONTEC combines compact design with the largest working envelope in its class for optimal use of space with a small footprint. Equipped with a waterproof and dustproof in-line wrist and protected motors, the robot is suitable for almost every area of application. A Foundry option also enables use in extremely hot environments with an expanded temperature range from 0° to 55°C.

Flexible, powerful and economical – these are the impressive characteristics of the new KUKA Foundry robots from the KR QUANTEC series. During the past year, the automation specialist completely revised the standard version of its bestselling robot, ensuring that it remains state-of-the-art technology. KUKA is now presenting the second generation of the special version for the foundry, forging and machining industries – more digitalized and even better than before.

Balluff’s new absolute magnetic linear encoders with Siemens Drive-Cliq interface are designed to integrate perfectly into Siemens motion controller environments. Plug-and-play installation makes incorporating them into the drive system easy. The controller automatically detects the sensor and its basic settings.

To enhance control and cabling efficiency for motor-driven roller (MDR) conveyor systems, Beckhoff Automation has released the new EP7402 EtherCAT Box. This compact controller is a two-channel motor output stage for BLDC motors used in MDRs, regardless of the conveyor or roller motor vendor.

One of Canada’s largest wastewater treatment plants at Annacis Island provides secondary treatment to approximately 175 billion litres of wastewater every year for over 1 million residents in 14 municipalities. After almost 20 years in operation, the variable frequency drives supporting the critical pumping systems for the primary treatment and secondary treatment facilities had to be replaced to ensure that the plant’s high operational availability and reliability will not be compromised in serving the plant, the surrounding municipalities and the environment. Metro Vancouver Regional District chose to deploy Rittal’s enclosure and power distribution solutions with E-plan software to efficiently support vital infrastructure improvements by reducing equipment replacement times and thereby minimizing risk to plant operations.
