Moxa Whitepaper – How to Choose an Edge Gateway for Your IIoT Applications

Digital transformation is top of mind for business leaders, solutions providers and consultants these days. The multi-trillion-dollar predictions on everything from IOT to AI/Machine Learning are indeed staggering to think about. That said, when it comes to manufacturing systems our recent experience suggests that organizations are still cautious when it comes to investment and taking their first steps into the digital world.
Running a motor directly from the power source produces uniform, sinusoidal waveforms but wastes energy due to continuous speed operation regardless of the load requirements. To enhance efficiency, variable frequency drives (VFDs) control motor speed, reduce energy consumption, and minimize equipment wear. However, VFDs use pulse-width modulation (PWM) to supply electrical pulses instead of a true voltage waveform, generating harmful harmonics that can damage motors, cables, and bearings.
The world has been abuzz for the past couple of years over the deployment of 5G (short for “fifth generation”) networks. The topic came up in a recent episode of Omron’s podcast featuring special guest Mike Chen, Omron’s Senior Director of Solutions and Technology Development, and he provided insights into how 5G could transform automation.
Industrial gear units are used in many production activities worldwide, particularly in the heavy industries such as construction, mining, oil and gas, and industrial machinery. These applications require significant mechanical work from the gear units and demand mechanical products that can get the work done reliably.
January 26, 2023 Manufacturing automation companies range from small to large, but even the smallest ones employ a variety of people with different roles, and therefore different concerns. Granted, everyone’s ultimate goal is to help the company make profits and fulfill its mission, but this depends on the employees at different levels within the hierarchy…
Light curtains go a long way in making your operations much safer for machine operators and maintenance personnel. That said, simply purchasing and installing one doesn’t ensure that all safety needs are fully met. It’s important to make sure that the light curtain meets all the requirements for reducing the risks of your particular application.
