ABB Named Global Leader in SCADA Systems for the Power Sector

ABB

December 11, 2017

ABB has been named as the global market leader in SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems for the power transmission and distribution sector by ARC Advisory Group, a leading technology research and advisory firm for industry, infrastructure, and cities, in its newly released report titled “SCADA Systems for the Electric Power Industry Market Analysis, 2016-2021.“

SCADA is a computer-based system for gathering and analyzing real-time data to monitor and control equipment that deals with critical and time-sensitive materials or events. Data is gathered, processed and presented, often to issue warnings when conditions become hazardous by sounding alarms.

According to the report, ABB is also the number-one supplier of SCADA control center solutions for Transmission and Distribution in North America and Latin America, and the global leader in large-scale SCADA projects (over USD $1 million). The report also positions ABB as the leading global supplier in terms of revenues from software, service, maintenance and customer support.

“We are encouraged by this recognition of ABB’s continued global leadership in network management solutions and our track record with the world’s leading utilities” said Claudio Facchin, President Power Grids division. “SCADA systems are becoming increasingly critical for the control and operation of an increasingly digitalized grid, and our ABB AbilityTM based solutions are ideally suited to support this transition, reinforcing our position as a partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid.”

“ABB moved to the top of the leader board in 2016 having picked up more than six market-share percentage points on the strength of its integrated SCADA solutions,” said Steve Couther, ARC’s smart grid analyst and the report’s author. “We expect to see continued growth in this market driven by significant global trends such as the expansion of renewable energy sources, microgrids and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). As per our estimates the SCADA market for T&D-related components of the electricity grid exceeded two and a half billion dollars in 2016 and is expected to grow through 2021.”

ABB Ability™ Network Manager SCADA is a real-time platform to securely and efficiently manage all remotely controlled operations across energy generation, transmission and distribution systems. These control solutions allow utilities to improve system reliability and resiliency, increase safety and security, and maximize operational efficiency. Key customer benefits include performance, scalability, cyber security and optimized total cost of ownership.

ABB also offers its ABB AbilityTM based MicroSCADA Pro solution for application at the station level and a distributed generation solution to integrate and manage renewables, like solar photovoltaic and wind, enabling simplified plant operations, remote monitoring, analytics, and forecasting.

ADVANCED Motion Controls Takes Servo Drives to New Heights (and Depths) with FlexPro Extended Environment Product Line

Advanced Motion Controls is proud to announce the addition of six new CANopen servo drives with Extended Environment capabilities to their FlexPro line. These new drives join AMC’s existing EtherCAT Extended Environment FlexPro drives, making the FlexPro line the go-to solution for motion control applications in harsh environments.

Many motion control applications take place in conditions that are less than ideal, such as extreme temperatures, high and low pressures, shocks and vibrations, and contamination. Electronics, including servo drives, can malfunction or sustain permanent damage in these conditions.
