Industrial Security: Solutions for the Prevention of Cyber Attacks and Downtimes

4.0

March 26, 2018

Hannover. Integration is the watchword – at a technological level and between enterprises and sectors. However, it is essential to bear in mind the attendant risks and challenges. Integration presupposes a dependable digital infrastructure. IT security will thus play a prominent role at HANNOVER MESSE 2018 and augment the trade show’s keynote theme “Integrated Industry – Connect & Collaborate” . The new exhibit category “Industrial Security” under the umbrella of Digital Factory in Hall 6 will create a central magnet for users and product developers in the field of mechanical/plant engineering and industrial automation. The line-up will embrace individual exhibitors, a group presentation and the Industrial Security Forum.

“Industry 4.0 will be impossible without the protection of data and know-how,” says Arno Reich, Global Director IAMD and Digital Factory at HANNOVER MESSE. “The reliable operation of interconnected production installations and services is one of the key challenges facing industry. At ‘Industrial Security’ specialist enterprises will present a complete spectrum of exhibits – for example, security by design, authentication, encryption, copy protection and access control.”

The list of exhibitors at “Industrial Security” will include Trend Micro Deutschland (Hall 6, B16). Headquartered in Tokyo, Trend Micro is one of the world’s leading suppliers of IT security technology. In Hannover the spotlight will on the company’s security solution for (industrial) IoT devices which manufacturers can incorporate into their products during the development phase. “The increasing digitalization of industrial installations opens up unprecedented opportunities, but poses new security threats,” confirms Thomas Rademacher, Marketing Director of Trend Micro Deutschland. “At HANNOVER MESSE 2018 Trend Micro will present a portfolio of solutions that enable users to safeguard their installations against cyber threats. This includes the safeguarding of network connections and the protection of data transferred to the cloud and stored.”

DriveLock (Hall 6, E15) has chosen the exhibit category “Industrial Security” as the venue for its first-ever appearance at HANNOVER MESSE. This Munich-based company will be presenting its Smart AppGuard (Application Control with AI), an endpoint protection platform which configures smart factory devices on the basis of various guidelines. This enables administrators to react flexibly to the requirements of disparate operating systems – ranging from embedded OS to Windows XP – and take advantage of available maintenance windows. “The new threat scenario – characterized by digitization and enormous data quantities – has boosted the demand for IT security solutions,” explains Anton Kreuzer, CEO of DriveLock SE. “More and more frequently large-scale production installations are a target for cyber criminals. Such installations are closed systems that require dedicated security measures.”

The exhibitor line-up at “Industrial Security” also includes WIBU , RadarServices , Kaspersky , itWatch , Protea Networks , admeritia and Gemalto . The group presentation will bring together Rhebo GmbH , University4Industry , Fraunhofer IOSB , Fraunhofer AISEC , Janz Tech , Phoenix Contact , IUNO , accessec , TÜV IT , as well as the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) .

The accompanying forum program will centre on security by design, IT security in society, certification and standards, data protection and legal affairs, platform security, security management, IoT security, Industry 4.0 security, the security of industrial protocols, and security & people. At the forum users will have the opportunity to showcase their solutions and examples of best practice. Both the exhibition and the forum have been organized jointly by the VDMA and Deutsche Messe AG. “The security of our society and industry ultimately depends on whether we firmly implant it, not only in our product but also in the minds of employees and citizens,” emphasizes Steffen Zimmermann from the information systems department of the VDMA. “Innovative technical solutions for industrial security are unveiled at Hannover Messe prior to their implementation in plant and machinery all over the world – security made in Germany.” Various VDMA sub-organizations are active in the security field. These include the Competence Center Industrial Security (CCIS), the task force “Information Security”, the task force “Industrial Security” and the working party devoted to “Product and Know-how Protection”.
