October 9, 2018
Algonquin College has announced it will receive a software grant from Siemens PLM Software. The software gives Algonquin students access to the same technology that companies around the world depend on every day to develop innovative products in a wide variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, machinery, shipbuilding, high-tech electronics and many more. Graduates with this type of software training are highly-recruited candidates for advanced technology jobs.
The College will receive 150 licenses of NX™ software, a leading integrated solution for computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE), as well as 100 licenses of Tecnomatix® portfolio, the industry leading digital manufacturing software. The software will eventually support more than 400 students in Mechanical and Manufacturing programs starting in fall 2019. Over the next year faculty will become familiar with the software and finalize how it will be incorporated into program curriculum.
“Algonquin College is grateful to Siemens PLM Software for their commitment to preparing the next generation of digital talent,” said Cheryl Jensen, President of Algonquin College. “This generous grant will provide our learners with cutting-edge training tools and hands-on experience using industry-preferred software.”
The software provided by the Siemens PLM Software academic program delivers technology for schools at every academic level. Siemens PLM Software is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services.
“Strong industry collaboration is required to prepare the next generation of designers, engineers and manufacturers for Industry 4.0. Siemens PLM Software is collaborating with leading manufacturers to empower both the current and future workforce with digital technologies and real-world expertise, according to Dora Smith, global director, Academic Partner Program, Siemens PLM Software. “Our academic partnership with Algonquin College connects industry with academia to train students to become highly qualified professionals.”
