One Bishopsgate Plaza is first UK project for ABB’s TruONE® ATS

November 27, 2018

ABB has made its first UK delivery of TruONE® ATS units to building services contractor TClarke for installation at One Bishopsgate Plaza, a high-profile property development in the heart of the City of London. The ATS was launched in the UK in March 2018 as a significant step forward in backup power technology. TClarke has adopted it for this project because of its ability to meet stringent specifications, compact size and straightforward installation.

ATSs have the role of sensing when power is lost and then switching automatically to a second power supply or a backup generator. As a result, they are essential for safety in large buildings in the unlikely event of a power outage. They also represent process continuity and safety at industrial and manufacturing facilities.

TClarke will install a total of 30 TruONE ATS units at One Bishopsgate Plaza in the form of enclosed single bypass versions of the unit rated at 40, 63, 100, 160, 400 and 630 Amps.

Harry Rowe, TClarke’s Project Manager, said: “It was a natural step for us to adopt the TruONE, having installed hundreds of ABB’s previous best-in-class ATS over the years. As a smaller unit with more functionality and meeting a higher specification, it gives us more options for installation.”

Kane Perry, ABB’s Project Engineer said: “We’re excited to have delivered the UK’s first TruONE ATS units to TClarke. This project is the latest in our long working history with TClarke and we’re hoping to build on it with further high-profile projects in the near future.”

The TruONE ATS features a digital controller that has enabled less complex control and wiring arrangements. It offers the advantages of having the option of overlapping neutral and being solenoid operated, as well as complying with BS EN and UL specifications. These are common requirements in some technical specifications.

ABB carries out assembly and packaging of TruONE units at its UK production facilities and offers the switches as enclosed versions for standalone installation, as well as non-enclosed versions for integration into electrical panels and cabinets.

These new drives join AMC’s existing EtherCAT Extended Environment FlexPro drives, making the FlexPro line the go-to solution for motion control applications in harsh environments.

Many motion control applications take place in conditions that are less than ideal, such as extreme temperatures, high and low pressures, shocks and vibrations, and contamination. Electronics, including servo drives, can malfunction or sustain permanent damage in these conditions.
