World’s Largest Hub for Collaborative Robots Opens in Denmark: Danish Robotics Companies Mobile Industrial Robots and Universal Robots Invest $36M in Robot Development and Production

With financial backing from their joint U.S. parent company Teradyne, Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) and Universal Robots (UR) have acquired a 50,000 m2 building site in Odense, where $36 million will be invested in the construction of a major cobot hub in the “cobot capital” of the world. Collaborative robots – or cobots – are now the fastest growing segment of industrial automation. Cobots are a type of user-friendly robots that can work closely with humans without the need for safety guarding, enhancing both work environment and productivity.

Highly flexible robot control implemented as firmware extension based on TwinCAT

In their development of the RC9 robotics controller, DENSO WAVE and Beckhoff Japan followed a new approach by redefining the control concept for DENSO WAVE’s industrial robots. While previously all robot controls were only available as hardware, the new control system is software-based. RC9 will initially be adopted in new VM and VL series models before being gradually deployed in future products. The concept of the new control solution was presented to the media on Wednesday, 18 December 2019, at the International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo. In addition to the RC9 special presentation, DENSO WAVE demonstrated extremely smooth operation of a production line with the integrated RC9 control system at their booth.

Integrating digital platforms into the real world

Digital business platforms are an important part of HANNOVER MESSE, where they cut across multiple areas of the “Digital Ecosystems” display category. “Platform business models are the way of the future,” said Hubertus von Monschaw, Deutsche Messe’s Global Director Digital Ecosystems for HANNOVER MESSE. “While they have long been par for the course in the consumer segment, they’ve been a little slow to catch on in manufacturing. But they are indeed catching on, and there is no doubt that the platform economy will play an increasingly important role in the industrial B2B segment.”

Universal Robots Helps Manufacturers Meet New-Year Goals During “National Cobot Awareness Month” in January

January is traditionally a month for new hope and new energy to meet life and business goals. But for manufacturers facing a new year with the lowest unemployment rate in more than five decades, it can be a tough time to expect workers to come back with enthusiasm from holiday celebrations to dull and menial tasks.
