ABB has announced actions across three divisions to complete the business model change for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as it ends its transition year 2017. These decisions are fully in line with ABB’s strategy to shift the center of gravity towards strengthened competitiveness, higher growth segments and lower risk.
Deployment of electrical distribution systems can be challenging for the oil and gas industry. Harsh environments, such as offshore platforms and onshore drilling and extraction sites often make it difficult for electrical distribution and power systems to be installed, commissioned and operated in traditional ways. Reuters Reports that hackers recently invaded the safety system of a critical infrastructure facility in a watershed attack that halted plant operations, according to cyber investigators and the firm whose software was targeted. FireEye Inc disclosed the incident on December 14, saying it targeted Triconex industrial safety technology from Schneider Electric.

Consolidated sales for the quarter ended October 31, 2017, were $8.8 million, compared to $10.3 million in the prior year, a decrease of $1.6 million or 15.4%. The decrease in sales was related to timing of kickoffs in certain divisions as well as lower volumes in certain sectors.

The growing demand for electric-powered vehicles means a bonanza for battery production and a quest for more efficient battery production to which Festo is contributing. ABB will provide key components for power distribution for the Eglinton Crosstown project, a new light rail transit line (LRT) in Toronto, Canada, to ensure the safe, reliable operation with almost zero emissions.
