FANUC America Supports Safety and Risk Assessment
March 6, 2020
FANUC America, a supplier of robotics, CNCs, ROBOMACHINEs and Industrial IoT solutions has experienced fast-paced growth in consumer-oriented, service markets and entertainment.
After nearly 40 years of providing robots and automation for manufacturing, FANUC’s products now appear in television and movie productions, advertisements, tradeshow displays, theaters, and exhibits. The overall popularity of robots and automation has prompted production managers to include these products to enhance consumer appeal.
As more companies use robots and automation for traditional manufacturing and non-traditional entertainment, FANUC advises that safety and risk assessment should be the number one priority for all applications. FANUC strives to ensure the safety and quality of its products and services, and invests tremendous resources to meet the requirements of laws, regulations, standards, and individual customers. FANUC participates in and supports continuous safety training for its employees, customers, and robot users. FANUC designs, manufactures, and uses its robots according to industrial robot safety standards such as the Robotic Industries Association’s (A3/RIA) newly revised ANSI/RIA R15.06-2012 Safety Standard for Industrial Robots and Robot Systems, and other safety standards. FANUC contributes to a number of safety standard committees to best understand and follow all safety requirements. These standards provide safety guidelines for anyone that interacts with the equipment.
Industrial robot standards are different from safety standards and other considerations for non-industrial uses such as those for robotically assisted surgery (IEC 80601-2-77:2019) and other uses such as amusement rides (EN 13184, ISO 17842 and ISO TS 17929, and ASTM F2291 and F24). The robot integrator and user should consider every factor for the safety of all involved.
