IMO Relays in e-gnition Autonomous EV Race Car
March 23, 2020
With a long history of innovation and a desire to support the engineers of the future, IMO has always looked to assist in educational engineering projects, so when we were approached by our German partner – Relcon GmbH – about donating some of our components to a local German student engineering team, we jumped at the chance.
e-gnition Hamburg is the Formula Student Team of the Technical University of Hamburg. Every year they take part in the largest international engineering competition in the world, by designing, developing and constructing an electric autonomous racing car for Formula Student. Incredibly, Formula Student consists of 40,000 participants from around 500 teams, competing across three different classes – combustion, electric and driverless – and all cars need to be designed, manufactured and tested within one year in order to compete. Cars race each other at renowned racetracks such as Hockenheim, Spielberg and Silverstone amongst others.
IMO was delighted to provide a selection of sub-miniature power relays to the e-gnition team to be included in the design and final construction phases of the egn20 race car. The egn20 race car is the first constructed by e-gnition to compete in both the Electric and Driverless classes, with the ability to switch between Driver Controlled and Driverless modes, enabling the car to adapt to the changing Formula Student environment.
