Optimized Factory Reset with Additional Functionality Updates for VisuNet RM Shell 5 and VisuNet Control Center

June 9, 2020

The new functionality updates from Pepperl+Fuchs provide an optimized factory reset and new functionalities for the VisuNet RM Shell thin client software (5.0 and newer) and the VisuNet Control Center add-on software. The improved factory reset gives users the ability to maximize storage capacity for third-party software and security updates. In addition, the factory reset can now be controlled remotely from VisuNet Control Center.

The new functionalities upon reset include the option to create custom backup and clone images. These images contain all information, structures, and data from the VisuNet RM Shell and Windows® system-level files.

More Space for Updates and Third-Party Software

While the factory reset image file was previously stored locally on the hard disk, the new version of the factory reset allows the file to be individually created and stored on the network drive. By outsourcing the Pepperl+Fuchs factory reset image, users now have more storage space and can install major security updates, their own drivers, and third-party software.

Individual Backup for Your Devices

The new functionality update for the VisuNet RM Shell 5 firmware allows you to create and save individual backup images of the “status quo” of your device. If required, users can easily upload the backup image to the same device to restore the previously recorded status. This way, installations will not be lost and do not have to be restarted if there is a reset—all settings and configurations are transferred with the backup.

New Wizards—Create and Upload Images Remotely

The functionality update for the VisuNet Control Center software includes a “Capture Image” wizard and an “Apply Image” wizard. The “Capture Image” wizard allows a backup image and a so-called clone image to be created. This function is useful for quickly and easily transferring an image from one device to other similar devices with the same hardware type. Third-party software settings are also completely transferred. The “Apply Image” wizard in Control Center allows you to upload existing Pepperl+Fuchs image files or previously created clone and backup images.

In addition to the creation of individual backups, Pepperl+Fuchs will continue to provide device-specific factory reset images on demand.
