Panel Builder System Integrator

December 7, 2018

Belden Inc. has released the world’s first complete solution for configuring and using TSN in Industrial Ethernet Networks. This first “Industrial-grade” TSN solution from Hirschmann combines the TSN firmware releases for the Hirschmann RSPE and OCTOPUS II series Industrial Ethernet switches with Industrial HiVision 8.0, which integrates TSN configuration and supervision functionality.

Tool-assisted configuration with the MultiConfig tool in Industrial HiVision enables TSN configuration without laboriously logging in to each device and setting parameters, such as time synchronization and the TSN schedule, individually. The combination of Industrial HiVision and the TSN firmware on the switches makes TSN actually usable in production as well as evaluation environments for the first time. With an extension to the integrated dashboard function, Industrial HiVision can visualize TSN schedules and allows the operator to monitor the TSN operation.

Based on standardized IEEE 802 Ethernet technology, TSN can be seamlessly integrated into existing Industrial Ethernet infrastructure to provide enhanced functionality.

Hirschmann Industrial HiVision network management

Industrial HiVision is the best in class network management software from Hirschmann. It enables customers to conveniently configure and monitor devices in networks of various sizes. The unique MultiConfig feature of Industrial HiVision provides a single TSN tool to configure everything from an individual switch up to an entire automation network. Industrial HiVision can be used free of charge to configure and supervise up to 16 devices. Based on open standards, the Hirschmann products offer a future-proof solution as the TSN integration commences with the existing Industrial Ethernet ecosystems.

Hirschmann HiOS switch operating system with TSN functions

The latest release 07.3.00 of the Hirschmann HiOS operating system supports the Industrial Ethernet switches RSPE and OCTOPUS II. The OCTOPUS II is the world’s first IP67 Industrial Ethernet switch with TSN capabilities.

TSN functionality is available as a free of charge firmware upgrade, providing a great opportunity to get familiar with this key technology, without the need for a starter kit.

“The combination of the Hirschmann Network Management System Industrial HiVision with its unique capability to monitor and configure TSN mechanisms empowers customers to use TSN immediately and effectively, from a single device to an entire network.” said Dr. Oliver Kleineberg, global CTO Industrial Networking. “The TSN technology is a key driver to realize novel value streams in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) by converging different automation networks to one automation backbone. And Industrial HiVision is the tool for our customers to truly unlock the potentials that this new technology offers.

“Today, the possibility to configure VLANs is a standard function of a managed Ethernet switch. Fast forward a few years, and the real-time capability offered by TSN will be just such an expected function in a managed switch.” he added.

Pipeline Hack Raises Questions and Concerns: How Secure is your OT Network? - JMP Solutions

JMP SolutionsHow secure is your industrial network? Do you have shared passwords? While working on OT related networks, can you access the internet and your email?

If you have been following the news and happen to work in a process or manufacturing facility, you are probably thinking about how secure your environment is, and if it is at risk for critical production halting threats.  Whether your company manufactures cars, packages food products, or provides an essential resource or goods to society, an attack could be crippling to not only your business but the population who may very well rely on the goods that you produce.

UCEC Identifies What Makes Them a Top Notch Control Panel Builder

PBUS-27-UCEC-TopNotchPanelBuilder-400.jpg

UCEC has existed for more than sixty years by building the best control panels, period. To keep their focus on quality custom panels, they have never defined themselves as a “one-stop shop." To be all things to all people with something as complicated as a control panel should send up a red flag. When panels shops try to do everything (a “one-stop shop”), that’s when things get diluted and messy.

There is so much talent and work that goes into a UCEC panel. UCEC knows their industry thoroughly, and they wish to remain highly relevant in the field. No one gets there by being all things to all people. UCEC shares two examples of this philosophy in action.

PARTNERING WITH EXPERTS TO SERVE CLIENTS BETTER

UCEC's talented craftsmen contribute their years of knowledge of panel building to each project. Conversely, most engineering firms who try to build panels quickly learn there is more to them than meets the eye. As UCEC's President and CEO, Mark Inboden said, “Two specialized companies collaborating to solve a customer’s problem often leads to a better result for the end user.”

UCEC finds that the best results happen for their clients when they partner with other experts and this case study demonstrates exactly that.
