Pepperl+Fuchs Introduces NEW Industrial Thin Client for Virtualized HMI Systems
June 17, 2020
Pepperl+Fuchs offers a new, compact industrial box thin client—the BTC14. The thin client features the state-of-the-art VisuNet RM Shell 5 firmware, the latest generation of thin client firmware for industrial-grade security and stability.
The BTC14 is a compact industrial box thin client for use in harsh industrial environments. Intel Apollo Lake and AMD Ryzen processors support modern operator workstation setups with up to four monitors. The BTC14 has four DisplayPort connections for quad video applications. It also supports D++ (allows connectivity to an HDMI monitor via a passive DP-to-HDMI cable) and Multi-Stream Transport protocol (daisy chaining multiple monitors to one display port).
As an industrial-grade product, the BTC14 is built on an aluminium chassis with a fanless design. It has a safe operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C and no internal moving parts. The shock- and vibration-resistant thin client weighs less than 5 pounds and can be easily mounted to a wall, inside a cabinet, or operated on a desktop.
The predecessor to the BTC14—the BTC12—is also used in harsh industrial environments, but has two DisplayPort connections for dual video output, supporting 4K (Ultra HD) resolution at 60 Hz.
“We have found that office-grade thin clients have a very high failure rate in industrial settings,” said Aaron Severa, product manager for HMI. “Our customers need a rugged, modular unit that is reliable, easy-to-use, and compatible with their existing equipment and software. The BTC14 is all that and more.”
Pepperl+Fuchs has recently introduced the new VisuNet RM Shell 5 embedded operating system. This latest-generation software offers significant enhancements through a simplified touch-screen-optimized user interface, advanced security features, and Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB. The BTC14, like all of Pepperl+Fuchs’ VisuNet products, comes pre-loaded with RM Shell 5.
