Banner Engineering: SD50 Status Display Provides More Status Information in the Most Helpful Locations

January 17, 2025

Improve the accuracy and efficiency of many applications with Banner’s SD50 Status Display, which communicates sensor, machine, and other device information via both text and multicolor LEDs.

A cost-efficient alternative to expensive HMIs, the SD50 offers easier mounting and more placement flexibility. It provides more detailed information about process and machine status and can work in tandem with traditional indicator lights, making it ideal for status feedback, process sequences, timing, counting, and measurement display applications. These abilities also simplify training and speed up onboarding by shortening the learning curve.

Key Benefits

Easily Configure to Deliver Quick, Clear Communication

Available in both discrete and IO-Link models, the SD50 easily integrates into many different systems and applications, especially Banner sensing, safety, and monitoring solutions. The discrete model uses Banner’s user-friendly Pro Editor software to easily configure color, animation, and text without coding or a PLC. Pro Editor is also used to control what is displayed via the discrete inputs. For IO-Link and Modbus models, choose a mode and advanced functionality in parameter data, then use process data to send strings and values for dynamic indication and display updates.

SD50 Machine Alignment

To deliver the desired information quickly and clearly, the SD50 uses a bright white 16-character LED display that allows up to 32 characters when scrolling, and its 28-millimeter characters are legible up to 10 meters. Two sets of four RGB LEDs have seven default colors and multiple animation options that align with existing indication and enhance the displayed message.

Provide Status Information Right Where It’s Needed

The SD50 Pro LED Status Display offers easy mounting and great placement flexibility. With its rugged, vented, IP65-rated polycarbonate housing, the SD50 can be used in a great number of applications and environments, both indoors and outside. The built-in vent mitigates condensation due to temperature changes, allowing the SD50 to be used in applications that involve movement from one environment to another. Endcap mounting and brackets facilitate quick and secure mounting in many different locations, while connectivity is provided by an M12 5-pin pigtail that easily tucks out of the way with built-in cable retention grooves on the endcaps.

Enhance Efficiency in Any Application

With multiple operational modes to choose from, the SD50 can take data from a device and communicate it in a way that best fits the situation. This can also simplify training and speed onboarding by shortening learning curves.

Using run modes, the SD50 translates machine outputs to actionable information, displaying equipment status messages, sequential instructions, and other operator instructions. Measurement modes convert and display dynamic sensor outputs like distance, fill levels, and temperatures. Timer modes can start, stop, and reset a timer. Counter modes increase or decrease count values based on input pulses, such as tracking scrap count or items as they pass on a conveyor.
