Phoenix Contact: New Controller Family for Building and Room Automation

Phoenix Contact Announces Expansion of Controller Line Product Portfolio

Compact distribution boards which offer little space for the hardware to be installed are often used in building and room automation. Phoenix Contact has therefore extended its product portfolio to include devices in the DIN rail-mount format. In addition to the proven ILC 2050 BI building controller, the new Catan C1 EN controller is now available.

The compact controller with an overall width of just six HP features a flexible mix of 14 individually configurable inputs and outputs, resulting in further space and cost savings. The eight universal inputs are suitable for temperature sensors, 0 V … 10 V interfaces, and as meters, among other things. The two universal and four digital channels can be set as outputs or inputs.

The Catan C1 EN, which is equipped with a managed Ethernet switch, includes three Ethernet, two serial RS-485, and two USB-C interfaces for connecting a control panel and USB peripherals. It is also the first Niagara controller to have a KNX-TP interface on board. The plug-in control panel provides support during local commissioning, operation, and maintenance. In addition, there are two SPE interfaces for the various Catan extension modules.

Emalytics and the Niagara Framework are powerful tools available as a programming environment and for visualization and are also used by the established IL 2050 BI. With this equipment, protocols such as BACnet, KNX, and Modbus can be integrated, and the controller can be easily integrated into a cloud environment.

The Catan C1 EN by Phoenix Contact contributes to reducing the energy requirements of buildings, an important stepping block on the way to an All-Electric Society, in which renewable energy generated as a primary form of energy can be obtained worldwide in sufficient and completely economical terms.
